2027 Carmel Art Festival Judge

We are pleased to announce that Bill Cone, who is one of 30 artists in the Sonoma Plein Air Festival 2026, will be our Carmel Art Festival judge in 2027.

Bill Cone has had a career spanning illustration, film, design, and fine art. In

the mid-90’s at Pixar Animation Studios, he began working outdoors in

pastels, studying the effects of light and color. A few years later he began

teaching seasonal classes at Pixar, taking folks outside to observe and

paint the qualities of light they were working with on the computer. He

began teaching workshops publicly in 2010 at the Sierra Nevada Field

Campus, run by San Francisco State University, and has taught a summer

workshop there every summer since then. For 18 consecutive summers he

organized backpacking trips with fellow artists into the Eastern

Sierra Nevada backcountry and still continues to visit and paint the

mountains for inspiration and solace.

Bill has had numerous solo shows at the Studio Gallery in San Francisco. He

has lectured at MOMA in NYC, Helsinki, and Taipei, in conjunction with the

Pixar touring exhibition. He is a signature member of the CAC and has

exhibited in many of the shows over the last 10 years. He currently exhibits

at the Holton Studio in Berkeley and at the Piper J Gallery in Truckee.
