Plein Air workshops from a selection of our juried artists!

Carmel Art Festival is pleased to announce that a selection of our juried artists are offering 1 and 2 day Plein Air Painting workshops on May 11th and 12th, 2026. This is a wonderful opportunity to take a class from one of our Plein Air Pros at stunningly beautiful locations in and around Carmel By the Sea. Learn techniques, and processes in your favorite medium at the beach, on the bluffs, or along the wooded paths of beautiful Coastal California.
Once you make your $50 donation to register, we will put you in touch with our instructors so you can contact them directly and firm up all the details. Cost of the workshop is set by the instructor and does not include the registration donation of $50. As a thank you for your donation you will receive a specially designed Carmel Art Festival Cap, exclusively for workshop students.

Artist: Ken Christensen: Medium: Oil Painting (on site): Dates and Times: May 12th, 1 to 5:30 PM: Location: Carmel Beach (at the end of Ocean Dr): $120 per person: Four student minimum, ten maximum: All levels are acceptable but must have experience painting outdoors.
Artist: Paul Kratter: Medium: Oil, Acrylic and Watercolor: Dates and Times: Monday and Tuesday, May 11th & 12th, 9am to 4pm: Location: Depending on the weather we will go to Lover's Point in Monterey, Garrapata State Park in Carmel or Garland Park in Carmel Valley: Cost: $400 for the two days: Class size 7 minimum to 12 maximum: All Levels Welcome, must have some experience painting on location.
Artist: Marie Massey: Medium: Oil and Acrylic: Dates and Times: Monday, May 11th: AM demo and paint, 8:30 to 12:30, Picnic Lunch & Critique 12:30 to 1:30, PM demo and paint 2:00 to Golden Hour and Sunset: Location: Seal Rock Beach in the Morning 8:30 to 12:30, Bird Rock Beach for Picnic Lunch & Critique, then demo and paint 2pm to Golden Hour and Sunset. These locations are adjacent to one another. There are bathrooms and picnic tables as well as generous parking Cost: $125 plus $12.25 Entrance Fee to 17 Mile Drive: Class size 3 minimum to 10 maximum: All Levels Welcome.
Artist: Lynn Mehta: Medium: Oil: Dates and Times: 1 day workshop on May 12th 9:30am-3:00pm with a lunch break: Location: Lovers' Point, Pacific Grove: Cost: $120: How many students: Minimum 3, Maximum 15: Level of Student: All Levels Welcome.
Artist: Julia Seelos: Specializing in trees: Medium: Oil: Dates and Times: One day, May 12th: Location: Pacific Grove overlooking the ocean. PACIFIC GROVE OCEAN VIEW PARK: Cost: $140: Number of Students: Minimum 5 maximum 10.
